Dosage and Administration

Administration Route:
Intravenous (IV) use only.

  • Injection Site Reactions:
    Pain, burning, or stinging at the injection site. ​
  • Cardiovascular Effects:
    Hypotension (low blood pressure) and bradycardia (slow heart rate). ​
  • Respiratory Effects:
    Transient apnea (temporary cessation of breathing) following induction doses. ​
  • Neurological Effects:
    Involuntary muscle movements, including myoclonus. ​
  • Propofol Infusion Syndrome (PRIS):
    A rare but potentially fatal condition characterized by metabolic acidosis, rhabdomyolysis, hyperkalemia, and cardiac failure, particularly with prolonged, high-dose infusions. ​
  • Severe Hypersensitivity Reactions:
    Anaphylaxis and angio.​
  • Severe Cardiovascular Depression:
    Profound hypotension and asystole.​
  • Administration by Trained Personnel:
    Propofol should only be administered by individuals trained in the provision of general anaesthesia and airway management.
  • Monitoring
    Continuous monitoring of respiratory and cardiovascular functions is essential during
