Dosage and Administration

Administration Route:
Administered via infiltration, peripheral nerve block, or central neural techniques (e.g., epidural and caudal blocks).

Administration Instructions:

  • Preparation:
Ensure the solution is clear and free from particulate matter before use.
  • Technique:
    Use aseptic technique during administration.
  • Monitoring:
Continuously monitor the patient’s vital signs and state of consciousness during and after administration.
  • Dizziness or light headedness: due to effects on the nervous system
  • Numbness or tingling: beyond the injection site
  • Slow or irregular heartbeat: especially at higher doses
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Allergic reactions: rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing (rare but serious)
  • Hypersensitivity:
Contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or other amide-type local anaesthetic.
  • Cardiovascular Impairment:
Use with caution in patients with impaired cardiovascular function as they may be less able to compensate for functional changes associated with the prolongation of A-V conduction produced by lidocaine.
  • Pregnancy and Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution is advised when administering to nursing women.
  • Pediatric Use:
Safety and effectiveness in children depend on the procedure and the dose used; consult specialized references for pediatric dosing.
