Description
Dosage and Administration
- Administered once weekly via subcutaneous injection in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
- Starting dose typically begins at 2.5 mg, gradually increased to 5 mg and so on as tolerated.
- Rotate injection sites weekly.
Important: Do not use in type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
Side Effects
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Decreased appetite
- Fatigue
- Pancreatitis
- Hypoglycemia (especially if used with sulfonylureas or insulin)
- Severe gastrointestinal reactions
Precautions
- Not recommended in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
- Monitor for signs of pancreatitis.
- Use caution in patients with gastrointestinal disorders or renal impairment.
- Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you are taking.
- Not approved for use in pregnancy or pediatric patients.
